Melkbosstrand Blue Flag Beach – Welcome
Melkbosstrand is literally translated to “milk bush beach”. It refers to Euphorbiaceae Euphorbiaceae shrubs that grow on the sand dunes and emit a milky latex substance. Melkbos is a popular beachside destination. It has all the amenities you could want, including many inviting restaurants on the shore, modern supermarkets, and ATMs. Melkbosstrand, a Blue Flag Beach, is located on the West Coast Way Cultural Route. Blue Flag is an internationally recognized eco-certification that certifies beaches and marinas. A Blue Flag is a sign that a marina or beach is accessible, clean, and has high water quality. It also indicates that they are working hard to preserve local ecosystems and shorelines.
There are many cafes and restaurants along Beach Road. The Long Beach has green lawns which are ideal for picnics. Melkbosstrand is a popular beach for water sports. The conditions are perfect for surf skiers and wind/kite surfing, and the calm waters make Melkbosstrand a great spot for sea kayakers who want to paddle along the coast. Two spots, Beach Road and Captains, have enough waves to keep surfers happy.
Boating enthusiasts will find a slipway at the northern edge Melkbos Point that is safe for their leisure craft. The National Sea Rescue Institute’s Station 18 is also located here.

It takes only 35 minutes to drive north on the R27, or West Coast road, to get you from Cape Town to the nearest skydiving drop zone. This area is South Africa’s tourism capital and boasts one of the most spectacular views from high altitude.
The view from the skydive is spectacular as you fly up to the tandem skydive. The city bowl is located to the south between Table Mountain’s towering heights and the bustling Table Bay Harbour. To the south, on the other side of the mountain is False Bay, Hout Bay, and the beauty of the south peninsula up to Cape Point. To the west you’ll see Robben Island, the Atlantic Ocean breaking on Cape West Coast. This beautiful coastline is as well-known for its icy waters and mouth-watering crabs. The Langebaan lagoon is located to the north. It’s a great place for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
